Having travelled to numerous countries over a number of years i realized that i wasnt making the most of the opportuities i had been presented with. This caused me to really sit back and think about what i could be doing differently and look at ways i can get more enjoyment and less stress out of my travels...
So here it is; travel tips from Mrs Oceania International 2015!
Place you smartphone in airplane mode to save battery and to allow it to charge faster!
On long haul international flights you can go up to 24 hours without having the facilities to charge your phone so this simple trick helps to conserve what battery power you do have.
You will also find that many international flights now have USB ports in the back of headrests which will allow you to charge mid-flight!
Hate turbulence?! Sit in the seats that are near the wing of the plane.
The seats along the wing of the plane generally have the least amount of 'bounce' when flying as there is greater structural support!
ATMS will SAVE you money!
Use ATM's instead of currency exchanges (especially airport currency exchanges) as many will offer a much lower rate than you would get at an exchange counter. This then means more money for shopping in your destination country!
WI-FI for free!
While many airports still dont offer free wi-fi most of the restuarants inside airports will! If you dont feel like a drink or meal then simply sit right outside the venue as wi-fi signals often carry through walls!
Making Friends with Power
If you are the type that enjoys speaking with and meeting new people, take a power board with you in your carry on! During transit stop overs take it out and allow other around you to charge their accessories as well! They will LOVE you for sharing!
Forgotten your charger?!
Just ask your hotel front desk! They will often have a variety of chargers that have been left behind by former guests! Just remember to return it again when you leave so you can continue to 'pay it forward'.
Fragile and First!
Mark your suitcase / luggage with a 'fragile' sticker as this leads to gentler handling by airport staff. Fragile items are also often placed on top of other luggage meaning its on of the first to come out at baggage claim!
TV's, not just for watching!
If you have forgotten your wall plug or it is not compatible with your destination countries outlets, charge your devices though the USB slot on your hotels TV!
MID FLIGHT: cretain times are better than others to use the rest room facilities when flying. The best times to use it are right after the plane has leveled off and 20 - 30 minutes before landing.
AIRPORT: It may seem like a no brainer, but the first bathroom within an airport terminal is more often than not the most crowded. Continue to walk through the terminal until you come across the next in line. It will allow you to skip the long waits and save valuable time!
Keep your loose accessory chargers and cables organized inside a glasses case! Its simple and easy and compact enough it stores right inside your handbag or carry on and you wont have your cables getting damaged, lost or tangled!
Fresh and Clean
By placing Tumble Dryer sheets inside your suitcase you will be able to keep your clothes smelling clean and fresh!
To save baggage space and avoid your clothing from wrinkling simply roll your clothes! Pageant girls, this works great for evening style dresses! Once you arrive at your accomodation facilties be sure you still take them out to hang!
To Fold or not to fold
Some clothing items still may require folding and if thats the case use tissue paper to keep them from wrinkling!
Mis-Matched or Missing
Use a pill / tablet container to keep your jewelry organzised and untangled. This can also mean you can piece together accessories to match your outfits for each day of the week!
Should an incident occur where you lose or have your passport stolen make sure you have a copy! Take a photo on your iphone or ipad or even scan the document at home and email it to yourself for easy reference should it be required
Keep hair clips and bobby pins together by placing them inside an empty Tic-Tac container! The pop open lid also allows for easy and convenient retreival!
Unscrew lids on your containers and place a patch of caran / cling wrap on the top and then screw the lids back on! This will prevent any liquids from creating a mess through your luggage and ruining your trip!
A memory a day
As a present to yourself, mail yourself a postcard from each day of your travels! Write down what you experienced and about the people you met. If you want to include more like ticket stubs from shows and tourist maps then instead of a postcard mail a letter and place the addition items inside the envelope. This creates a nice memory to look back on and you wont forget your experiences.
A good deed
On your last day in your destination country, take all of your loose money and give it to the homeless or to a charity. It wont be of use to you when you return home but can go a long way in helping another person have a brighter, happier day!
Dont forget your camera... and if you've forgotten your camera then use your smart phone! Capturing these moments will help you to relive your experience and share it will friends and family when returning home!
